The Iowa Native Plant Society is a volunteer operated, nonprofit organization, open to all curious persons whose interest encompasses native Iowa habitat types (prairie, savanna, wetland, woodlands, etc.). We provide a forum of native plant enthusiasts to connect through field trips, workshops, newsletters, and more.  

Our goals are to increase awareness and education of native ecosystems and to promote the conservation and ethical use of native plants, as well as appreciation and enjoyment of Iowa’s native flora.

We are committed to providing you with high quality native prairie grass and wildflower seeds to meet your (CRP) Conservation Reserve Program, backyard, or custom prairie planting needs. Over 30 years ago, after discovering a prairie remnant on his farm, our founder, Carroll Hoksbergen, began to produce ecotype seeds. Now we specialize in helping farmers and land owners preserve the Midwest’s beautiful, prairie heritage through seed production and prairie establishment.

Troutleaf provides native plants to gardeners and habitat restoration projects across eastern Iowa. Troutleaf’s main goals are to offer local ecotype species of all plants it sells, educate the public on the benefits and importance of planting native as our climate changes, and help restore native habitat for all endemic creatures.

The Prairie Flower, LLC, is a native seed and plant nursery and dealer in rural northwest Iowa. We are owned and operated by a farm couple and an ecologist, working on a square mile of sand, gravel, farmland, native prairie, wetlands, and the Little Sioux River. We provide local ecotype native prairie and wetland plants and seeds, as well as native cultivar seed, pasture and hay seed, and lawn grass mixes. Our services include tree planting, seeding, ecological consulting and planning, natural land management and landscaping.

Mullein Hill Farm is dedicated to preserving plants of the prairie ecosystem and weaving interconnectedness between humans and plant species. We grow a diverse array of goods on the farm such as herbs, seeds, and veggies.
